Broxburn and Uphall are two villages which have now largely merged to form one centre. Uphall has a long history and an ancient church, while Broxburn grew up in the industrial revolution, growing prosperous due to the Union Canal and the coal and oil shale boom of the Victorian era.
The Union Canal now offers peaceful walks and cruises for tourists, such as those offered by the Linlithgow Union Canal Society.
Close by is Almondell and Calderwood Country Park, with lovely woodland and riverside walks perfect for summer picnics.
