West Lothian Tourist Information

Welcome to West Lothian ...
Between Edinburgh and Glasgow, West Lothian is a historic county, and an ideal base for exploring both cities and their surrounding countryside.

As you would expect, the area has many ancient castles and stately homes - most notably Linlithgow Palace, birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots, and the elegant and beautiful Hopetoun House. Near Hopetoun is Blackness Castle, a stark 15th century stronghold overlooking the River Forth.

The Union Canal is a reminder of the industrial heritage of the region, but now a peaceful visitor attraction.

The towns and villages of West Lothian also have much to offer, from the historic town centre of Linlithgow to the large shopping centres and designer outlet of the new town of Livingston.

For those that prefer natural attractions there are 3 country parks. Beecraigs, Almondell & Calderwood and Polkemmet offer a wide range of activities such as walking, fishing and golf, to canoeing and rock climbing for the more energetic.
