Benbecula is a small island sandwiched between the larger isles of North and South Uist, and one of many which make up the beautiful Western Isles.
Like the Uists, this windswept island has an intricate rugged coastline of inlets and spectacular beaches. These expanses of remote white sands backed by rolling dunes are one of the main attractions of this unspoilt region of Scotland, and Benbecula has some of the best.
Benbecula is less populated than some of its larger neighbours, but does have the benefit of its own airport (once an RAF base) which connects it to Glasgow and other Hebridian destinations. There is a small local Museum nan Eilean at Sgoil Lionacleit in the south of the Island. This has exhibitions on the history and culture of these distinctive communities.
