South WiltshireAmesbury

Amesbury, often overlooked by visitors to the nearby famous Stonehenge, the town is on a bend in the River Avon, crossed by a 5 arched Palladian bridge.

Visit the abbey that stands in a park, where the trees represent the position of the ships at the Battle of Trafalgar. The abbey is on the site of a priory where King Arthur's Queen Guinevere lived after the Kings death.

The Norman church of St Mary and Melor is worth a look.

But you must see Woodhenge, discovered from aerial photographs in the 1920's, the post holes are marked where a huge roofed timber building once stood in prehistoric times.
