South WiltshireWestbury

Westbury is on the edge of the Wiltshire plain, the small town was listed in the Domesday Book, and grew as a result of the wool trade before becoming an important leather and glove centre.

The arrival of the railway turned the town into an important stop for the Great Western Railway, it still is today, and with the local quarries using rail as  transport it is a popular place for train-spotting.

Westbury has a shopping centre, but is mostly visited by tourists on their way to see its famous White Horse cut in the chalk.

The town has some nice Georgian buildings and a funny faceless clock on All Saints church, made in 1604 by a local blacksmith. There is also a Victorian swimming pool.

Tourist Information Centre in the town.
