South W.SussexChichester

Chichester, once a Roman city, the town had been preserved from the ravages of modern development, especially with its Georgian houses. It still retains its Roman layout with a walled area with four streets. Parts of the wall remain today.

Sited in an inlet from Chichester Harbour, the coastal area is a favourite with sailors in this area of outstanding beauty. The harbour is linked to the town by a 4 mile canal, there are canal trips available March - December.

Famed for its cathedral started in 1091, the town will not disappoint the visitor. Many 18th century houses have survived, try around St Martins Square and the Pallent quarter.

Tourist Information Centre in the town. The town holds the Chichester Theatre season, mainly in the Festival Theatre. There is also a cinema.

Lots to see around the area, either inland or along the coastline.
