England has a wealth of historic castles from early times, all built as a response to threats, either from overseas or internal.
Today they are popular places to visit, although don’t be suprised to see just ruins as many have been destroyed by their builder’s enemies !
Castles are popular tourist attractions and often have summer events for you to enjoy during your visit.
Note that many places are closed in the winter months but whenever you go if you are making a special journey please telephone the establishment to confirm opening hours as these do change, especially if there is an event on.
